Cal State Long Beach Break Dance Club busts a move

The Cal State Long Beach Break Dance Club battled at the second Schools For Fools Break Dance Competition on Saturday in the University Student Union Ballroom.

Eight schools showed up to have fun, hang out with friends and defend their reputation. The schools present at the break dancing competition were CSULB, UC San Diego/San Diego State, UCLA, USC, Loyola Marymount University, the University of Santa Monica, Pasadena City College and National Taiwan University.

There were two battles that took place at the competition: the 2 vs. 2 and the 5 vs. 5. Anyone was welcome to enter the 2 vs. 2, but the main event, the 5 vs. 5, was just against the colleges.

The CSULB Break Dance Club fought to defend its first-place title from last year’s break dancing competition at LMU. CSULB made it to the final round with one battle left to go. It was CSULB against Taiwan University, and Taiwan took the prize.

The winner of the 2 vs. 2 was the Bam Rockers.

Even though the CSULB Break Dance Club lost its former first-place title, the president of the club, Salvador Pulido, remained positive.

“I felt really good. We had a really good team,” Pulido said. “Everybody put out their all to try and win.”

Pulido added that the Break Dance Club would start practicing again the very next day.

After the winners were announced at the end of the competition, the three judges, nicknamed Moy, Legacy and Little Bob, all gave final words to the break dancers.

“Being a real B Boy, you have to finish from beginning to end,” Moy said. “You have to finish your story.”
