The University Student Union Program Council held the 2nd annual Health Fair on the Southwest Terrace of the USU Tuesday.

Students browsed through the different tables that had information ranging from how to get health care after college to living a healthy sex life.

“The purpose of the Health Fair is to touch on the entire well-being of students – emotional, physical and mental health,” said Irving Barcenas, a USU Program Council program assistant.

Ten tables were set up, a few of which were represented by campus-run organizations, such as the Physical Therapy Club, Counseling and Psychological Services, as well as health care administration majors.

The Student Health Center also had a table set up with information about alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. The center offered condoms and even personal alcohol tests, which after being placed in users’ mouths for ten seconds can tell if they are legally able to drive.

A few off-campus organizations had tables set up as well. The Beacon House Association of San Pedro, a recovery house for men, had pamphlets explaining its purpose and three representatives to answer questions. The Sexually Transmitted Disease Program had baskets filled with condoms and how-to guides.

“We’re trying to help students gain knowledge about ways to talk about sex with their partners,” said Oscar Dimas, a representative of the Sexually Transmitted Disease Program. “Most people tend to talk about sex in bed, which is not always the best place to do so. We have guides to walk you through more productive ways to talk to your partner.”

The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services provided medical outreach and information on free and low-cost medical services. Project Choice, a campus program that promotes AIDS awareness as well as substance abuse awareness, was present at the exposition as well.
