CSU Dominguez Hills gun scare defused

A gun scare Thursday morning at Cal State Dominguez Hills has been defused, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The carrier of the unfunctioning training weapon was an ROTC who is now in custody.

A campuswide e-mail was sent out by Interim Chief of Police Stan Skipworth at 11:06 a.m. :

“This morning, California State University, Dominguez Hills Police received a call of an armed individual on campus. Police responded immediately and took the individual into custody. It was immediately determined that the individual was an ROTC student who had arrived on campus carrying a mock assault rifle to participate in a scheduled ROTC drill.

When the call was received by CSUDH University Police, the university community was notified through its campus emergency notification process, and a campus lock down was ordered. It is important to note that no shots were fired at Dominguez Hills, and there were no casualties.

A possible armed gunman at CSU Dominguez Hills in Carson has put the university on lock-down, according to KTLA Channel 5 News.

According to the report, the suspect was armed with an AK-47 and was seen walking around campus, but no shots or injuries have been reported as of Thursday morning.

The school website has posted alerts, notifying students not to come to school.

A representative from the California State University system, Clara Potes-Fellow, said Thursday morning that “we believe there might not be a shooter … It may be a misinterpretation of the situation.”

There is no word as of Thursday morning of whether the Cal State Long Beach campus has responded with security measures. County police have not released a statement at this time.
