A politician who lies to his constituents about his spending habits? Tell me when to open my mouth in awe. You’d think that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s staff would have a better, more elaborate way to keep track of the man’s traveling costs than by “word of mouth” and lost memos.
They’ve got a case of lost receipts. Sounds like the time I lost those ATM receipts and paid for it when my overdrawn bank account was asking me for $120 that I “accidentally” overspent. How do you efficiently run a government that “accidentally” loses records of the governor’s spending?
Even if they were small costs, why were they not made public before the L.A. Times questioned the memos?
When certain things are not being fully disclosed by the government, there’s always this feeling that our leg is being pulled.
Can you blame us? We’re supposed to trust a system that can’t even tell us how much they’ve spend on a round-trip to China on private jet. That’s $353,000, in case you didn’t know.
When we’re constantly told that our economy is getting bad, and that money cannot go to education because we don’t have it, we should be outraged that our governor is spending so much on travel.
Even if this money comes from nonprofit organizations, the fact is that he could have used it for something better. Instead, he hid behind a law for protection, leaving us to wonder if he actually cares about California’s best interest.
