Both basketball teams suffered tough road losses this weekend, as the men fell 52-48 to St. Louis, while the women suffered a buzzer-beater to Portland State 73-71.
Down by two with just two seconds left, Lauren Sims attempted to tie with a 10-foot jumper that rimmed out as the buzzer sounded. The Vikings’ (6-1) Claire Faucher had hit a jumper just seconds before to take the lead for Portland State.
Three 49ers (1-5) had double-digit games in Karina Figueroa (20 points), Sims (19 points) and Tyresha Calhoun (14 points).
The 49er men (1-5), once again, had first-half problems with offense as they scored just 17 points in the first half against St. Louis (6-3). Donovan Morris led with 14 points and Brian Freeman added 11.
