“Transformers: The Game” for Xbox 360 is a fun game if you are a die-hard Transformers fan. But if you’re just a regular gamer looking for a new game to play, don’t waste your money on this title.
“Transformers: The Game” was enjoyable for about 20 minutes before the novelty wore off. Then it just became repetitive and frustrating.
Every Transformer has weapons, but they are basically useless because any time you have to face an opponent in a fight, they can raise an energy shield that will stop you from shooting, hitting or throwing things at them. I don’t think the game designers completely thought this out because it lacks logic.
Of course, the Autobot missions are different from the Decepticon missions (they would have to be), but the general gameplay is the same.
If you’re an Autobot, you’ll have to drive to waypoint after waypoint destroying Decept-icons and anything else that is “evil.” The bad part about playing as the Autobots is that if you accidentally shoot buildings or drive into other people, you are penalized for the mindless destruction.
If you are a Decepticon, you get to blast everything into dust. This was quite satisfying after playing the Autobots campaign. But by far the best part about playing the Decepticons is the diverse array of things you can do with their Transformers. Instead of just driving around everywhere like you have to do with the Autobots, you can do other things like blast across the skies with Starscream or hover around an area with Blackout.
With “Transformers: The Game,” it seems like there was no real intent to make a good game. Playing it gives the impression that the makers just rushed it.
This franchise has a lot of potential, and there are a lot of good things about the concept the makers had for the game, but their execution is lacking. Boring missions and frustrating combats should be top on their list of things to fix if they decide to make a second game. In addition, the game is way too short.
The only good thing about playing this game was the fact that it really wasn’t that hard to get an Xbox Live gamer score on it. But if this is all you’re after, then I suggest you play “Madden NFL 06” or “NBA 2K6.”
