While the whole country was tuned in to see the latest Paris Hilton developments, Cal State Long Beach held the 2007 Special Olympics Southern California summer games.
The event brought about 5,000 people to our campus, according to the Monday edition of the Long Beach Press-Telegram. Approximately 1,500 athletes took part in the event.
I don’t know about you but reading about all the personal stories throughout the weekend made me feel as though everything I’ve done, and will do in the future, is extremely small in comparison to what these athletes are doing.
These were the children who were told their lives would be full of complication, and any possible activities outside special education classes would be limited. If these individuals have taught us anything, it’s that any limitations we think we might have could never be so huge as to put any goals or dreams on hold.
