Mayhem is approaching as we’re about to spend all of next week buried in a sea of books, final projects and constant freak-outs.
Can you smell the anxiety? But in an age of MySpace and YouTube, it will be a bit harder to avoid the little things that distract us from our academic duties.
You know what I’m talking about. Our two favorite guilty pleasures, along with Perezhilton.com. (Yes, I’ve fallen into the vicious Perez-trap, but come on, how else would I come up with clever Paris Hilton cartoons?). These guilty pleasures are making it impossible for students to concentrate during study time. Whether you’re trying to catch up on the latest episodes of “The Office” or checking your comments on MySpace, you just can’t help it. But we cannot blame Tom and Perez for our bad study habits.
I remember growing up way back in the ’90s when CD players and The Simpsons tended to distract me from geometry theories and Spanish assignments. Like every bad habit, this one is hard to shake, but if we want to pass those finals and give ourselves some actual study time, the best thing to do would be to try and stay away from the computer screen, unless it’s extremely necessary.
Remember books? Maybe we should try reading them some time. We pay the big bucks for them, why not use them? Good luck on your finals and try to stay away from the latest Leslie Hall video.
