Track and Field
It was a day of season-bests for the Long Beach State track and field team at the Triton Track and Field Invitational in San Diego on Friday and Saturday.
In his first 400-meter race of the year, Brent Gray ran a conference qualifying time, running in 48.10. Gray has already run regional qualifying times in the 100- and 200-meters.
Jasmine Winfield ran her best time of the year in the 200-meter (24.70) and she also ran a conference qualifying time in the 400-meter.
Erricka Feazell ran a season-best in the 100-meter hurdles (14.45) and the 400-meter hurdles (63.92).
Softball
The 49ers (23-21, 7-5) swept UC Riverside this past weekend, beating the Highlanders 8-2 and 8-7 on Saturday, and then 15-2 on Sunday.
In the first game of the series, Bridgette Pagano picked up her 14th victory of the season, giving up just two runs on five hits in seven innings.
In the second game Saturday, UC Riverside led 7-6 going into the seventh inning. The 49ers then made a comeback, with Jessica Beaver hitting her second homerun of the game and Brooke LeSage scored what turned out to be the game-winning run on a wild pitch.
