As a faculty member in the History Department, I would like to commend the Daily Forty-Niner for its fair and informative coverage of the faculty contract campaign. Because of the Daily Forty-Niner, the Long Beach faculty, staff and students have a much better understanding of the serious issues that have resulted in a 94 percent vote, supporting the first ever strike in the Cal State system.
We still hope the issues can be resolved, but if not, faculty are prepared to go out on two-day rolling strikes across the state.
I don’t want to miss class and I don’t want any of my students to miss class, but I believe the CSU’s inability to retain enough permanent faculty, along with the increase in class sizes and in student fees is hurting students far more than missing one meeting of class.
