Graduate student Shelena McClinton enters the race for ASI treasurer with student government experience under her belt. Because of this, she said she wants to make sure ASI maintains fiscal responsibility and accountability.
McClinton, who has served as a senator for the College of Liberal Arts for the past two years, has taken on the chair pro tempore position of the Board of Control, as well as other committees.
McClinton said she is running for treasurer because she wants to continue serving students, but she also wants to move on to a different post. She said she often spoke to and observed current ASI Treasurer Zaira Tinoco to see how the position works and what Tinoco has done with it.
“We’ve done a good job so far, but there’s always room for improvement,” she said.
She said she also wants to help students and organizations access funding.
“There are certain programs, especially the working student and grad student program [that] I would love to see be a more permanent program that ASI would take on,” McClinton said. “I’ve seen how integral [funding] and grants are to help student organizations thrive. If they don’t have this, then they fall apart.”
“Go out and vote,” McClinton said.
