To highlight Homecoming this Saturday, the Long Beach State men’s basketball team will host UC Davis at 4 p.m.

The 49ers (18-7, 9-2) are coming off a 93-78 loss to visiting Hawaii last Saturday, which snapped their five-game winning streak. The loss was also LBSU’s first at The Walter Pyramid this season.

LBSU has won 16 of 19 games since December and is leading the conference in points scored with 86.5 per game.

With the season winding down, Aaron Nixon is making a strong case for Big West Player of the Year. The senior shooting guard is second in the conference with 19.4 points per game, second in steals averaging two a game and is tied for first in 3-pointers made with 37.

The Aggies (4-19) have lost eight consecutive games, all of which were against Big West opponents. UC Davis will become an official member of the Big West next year, as it completes its four-year eligibility process.

UC Davis is led by Inglewood native Vince Oliver, who is averaging 12.8 points per game this season.

When the two teams met back on Dec. 28 in Davis, LBSU beat the Aggies 89-75. Nixon and forward Mark Dawson led the team with 16 points in the win.

LBSU is in first place in the Big West, holding a one-and-a-half game lead over Cal State Fullerton with three conference games left.

The 49ers will finish their regular season next week at Pacific Monday, at home to UC Irvine Thursday and at UC Riverside March. 3.
