After a huge comeback on Tuesday, the Dirtbags will take on the No 13 Texas in a three-game series this weekend at Blair Field.
In a crazy game on Tuesday, the Dirtbags fell behind 7-0 to Pepperdine before clawing their way back into the game and eventually tying the score at seven. The game was called due to darkness in the bottom of the ninth and will be continued on April 10 at Blair Field.
The No.30 Dirtbags will probably not want to put themselves in a position where they will have to make a huge comeback when they meet the Longhorns this weekend.
The Dirtbags (2-1) will host Texas (2-2) Friday night at 6:30 p.m., 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon, and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
LBSU is scheduled to have the same pitching rotation that it did against USC last week, with Vance Worley (0-0, 1.50) pitching Friday, Manny McElroy (1-0, 2.84) Saturday and Omar Arif (1-0, 0.00) on the mound for the finale Sunday.
Danny Espinosa continued his fine play for the Dirtbags against Pepperdine as he was 2-for-2 in the game with a three-run homerun in the eighth inning that tied the game.
Dirtbags third baseman Adam Tweedy and designated hitter Shane Peterson both contributed with two RBIs apiece in the comeback.
Texas hosted No.18 San Diego last weekend for a three-game home series and was able to pick up a victory in the second game and lost the other two.
The Longhorns hosted the University of Texas at Arlington Tuesday and came away with the 9-4 win to get to the .500 mark. Longhorn’s catcher, Preston Clark has gotten off to a quick start this season.
Clark went 1-4 Tuesday with one RBI and is batting with a .533 average (8 for 15), four doubles and three RBIs on the season.
Third baseman Bradley Suttle also went 1-4 with one RBI against UT-Arlington Tuesday and is batting .375 (6 for 16), with five RBIs in the Longhorns’ four games.
