LBSU back at home sweet home

Dominique Ricks, a forward, is averaging a team-high .563 field goal percentage, 6.6 points per game, and 6.3 rebounds this season. The 49ers will host Cal State Northridge today at 7p.m. Chay Chhuon

Long Beach State men’s basketball team will try and get back on track, after an 88-84 loss at UC Irvine last Thursday, when it hosts Cal State Northridge tonight at 7 p.m. and Pacific on Saturday at 4:35 p.m.

The 49ers (13-6, 4-2) are currently in third place in the Big West but are still within striking distance of first place Cal State Fullerton, which is one game ahead in conference with a 6-2 record.

LBSU got off to a terrible start in its game against UC Irvine last week. The Anteaters led 41-16 at the half and were able to hold off a second half LBSU comeback to win by four.

The 49ers’ first conference loss of the season was against CS Northridge on Jan. 13. In that game, like against Irvine, LBSU fell behind early and couldn’t comeback.

With LBSU playing at The Walter Pyramid this weekend, where the 49ers are undefeated this season, head coach Larry Reynolds isn’t expecting a slow start.

“We haven’t had a problem getting off to a slow starts at home. It has been on the road where we have had problems,” Reynolds said. “I expect us to be fine this weekend.”

The LBSU-Pacific matchup, which will be aired on Fox Sports Net Prime Ticket, is a rematch of last year’s Big West Tournament championship game. The Tigers (7-12, 3-3) won that game to go to the NCAA Tournament. But this year the team has struggled for most of the year.

“It is not the same Pacific team that has beat us the last couple years here at home,” Reynolds said. “But the more they are playing together, the better they are getting so it won’t be an easy game.”

On Thursday, the first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive trading cards of the LBSU seniors.

On Saturday, LBSU will retire Lucious Harris’ jersey at halftime. Harris, who played at LBSU from 1989-93, is the all-time leader in points for the 49ers and the Big West Conference.
