In its first road game of the year, the Long Beach State men’s basketball team fell to USC 79-61 at the Galen Center Friday night.
Nick Young led the way for the Trojans, scoring a game-high 22 points. Freshman Taj Gibson scored 10 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in the win.
USC (3-1) led 32-26 at halftime, but jumped out on 28-10 run in the first 8:35 of the second half to take control of the game.
LBSU (2-2) leading scorer Aaron Nixon led the 49ers with 13 points, but was averaging 19.3 points per game going into the matchup. Sterling Byrd was second on the team in scoring going in to the game, but was scoreless against the Trojans.
LBSU freshman Tim Island hit four three-pointers, tallying up 12 points for career-high.
It will only get tougher for LBSU when the team travels to No. 5 UCLA on Tuesday.
