Gimmillaro wins No. 600

In The Beach’s final Big West match of the season, head coach Brian Gimmillaro reached yet another milestone at the University of the Pacific Saturday night.

Gimmillaro, who has won three national championships at LBSU in his 22 years, won the 600th match of his career in an LBSU (22-5, 12-2) 30-28, 30-27 and 30-21 victory over Pacific (7-20, 3-11).

“It’s an honor to get number 600,” said Gimmillaro to the Long Beach State Sports Information Department. “I wish we could have done it at home. But it makes me think back to the thousands of memories over the years and the great players that have come through this program, and the great support I’ve received from the university. It’s a nice feeling.”

Alexis Crimes led The Beach in the win with 17 kills on 25 attempts. Mariko Crum had 11 kills and a career-high 11 assists in the win.

On Thursday, Gimmillaro won No. 599 as The Beach beat third-place Cal State Northridge (16-11, 7-7) 30-18, 30-27, 32-24 and 30-28.

Crimes had 20 kills in the match and Mischa Hasalikova added 12 kills in the four-game win.

Robin Miramontes, who has been battling injuries throughout the season, saw the most playing time she has seen in about month, and had 10 kills against CS Northridge.

The Beach will finish up the regular season with its annual Baden Thanksgiving Tournament at The Walter Pyramid this Friday and Saturday.
