The continued success of the women’s volleyball team is not quiet as certain as death and taxes, but with two wins at The Walter Pyramid this weekend, The Beach has now won 20 matches in 19 of the last 20 years.
The Beach (20-5, 10-2) didn’t lose a game this weekend, beating UC Riverside (2-23, 0-12) Friday 30-13, 30-11, 30-28. LBSU then beat Cal State Fullerton (16-11, 5-8) the next night 30-23, 30-11 and 30-28.
“We just have to continue to get better,” said LBSU head coach Brian Gimmillaro. “The goal now is to get into the NCAA Tournament and to make some waves once we get in there.”
Against UC Riverside, Alexis Crimes led the team in kills with 14. Mischa Hasalikova had eight kills in the three-game win.
As a team, The Beach hit an impressive .351 attacking percentage, while UC Riverside hit a .049 percentage as a team.
On Saturday, it was the Hasalikova show, as the Czech Republic middle blocker had a match-best 13 kills and hit just two errors.
Crimes had another strong outing, hitting 12 kills and cumulating a .435 attacking percentage in the win.
“Alexis and Mischa were very good tonight. [Crimes] is getting better and better every game,” Gimmillaro said.
The Beach has now won 10 of its last 11 matches and will finish off its Big West play away next week to Cal State Northridge and Pacific.
