The No. 14 Long Beach State men’s water polo team will head to Northern California this weekend and try to end a skid that has put The Beach in the cellar of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
LBSU has lost five of its last six matches and is currently 5-11 and 0-3 in the MPSF.
The Beach will be playing non-conference matches on the road this weekend, starting with Stanford, which beat LBSU at the Southern California Tournament by a 10-7 score on Oct. 14.
On Sunday, The Beach will play two, starting with UC Davis in Davis.
LBSU beat UC Davis at home in a sudden victory on Oct. 7, winning in a shootout by a 11-10 score.
Jay Gerardi, who leads the squad in goals with 28, scored the game-winner against the Aggies earlier this month.
The weekend will be capped with a match against Air Force, which The Beach also beat two weeks ago, 8-7.
Last Saturday, The Beach fell behind early to Pacific, losing 6-0 after the opeing quarter. LBSU ended up losing the match 11-5.
The next day, The Beach went through some deja vu, again falling behind early, this time by a 6-2 score to California before losing the match 14-5.
A bright spot for the team offensively has been the play of redshirt freshman Jeff Greenwood. In his first season on the active roster, Greenwood is second on the team in goals with 27.
