Volleyball sweeps matches

The Long Beach State women’s volleyball team didn’t lose a game this weekend, sweeping Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside on the road.

The Beach (16-4, 6-1) has now won a season-high six straight matches going into Friday’s big match against first-place Cal Poly (16-4, 8-0) in San Luis Obispo.

On Friday, The Beach beat CS Fullerton (14-7, 3-5) 30-27, 30-24 and 30-26.

Alexis Crimes led the squad in kills with 13. Qunicy Verdin and Mariko Crum both had nine kills. Dyanne Lawlor and Mischa Hasalikova each added eight kills in the win.

The win over Fullerton was the 47th consecutive time The Beach beat the Titans dating back to 1983.

On Saturday, LBSU beat UC Riverside (2-19, 0-9) 30-15, 30-24 and 30-24.

Dyanne Lawlor had 13 kills, and Alexis Crimes and Mischa Hasalikova chipped in 11 kills in the victory. As a team, LBSU had .29 attacking percentage in the match.

Tayala Whitfield led the team in digs with eight in the win.

Robin Miramontes, who had missed the last three matches, played in two of the three games against UC Riverside. Miramontes had three kills in her return.
