Men’s basketball favored to win Big West by media

The Long Beach State men’s basketball team was picked to win the Big West Conference championship in a vote of the conference’s media. LBSU also placed three players on the six-man Preseason Media Big West All-Conference Team.

Long Beach received 20 of 24 first-place votes and finished with 212 points in the preseason conference poll. UC Santa Barbara collected 196 points and four first-place votes. Reigning Big West Conference Player of the Year Casper Ware earned a spot on the preseason all-league team along with teammates Larry Anderson and T.J. Robinson.

The 49ers were named the preseason favorite after racing through the 2010-11 Big West season with a 14-2 record. LBSU, which won the regular-season conference title by four games, returns four starters and 11 players off last year’s team, while also adding five t recruits who are looking to make an impact during the 2011-12 season.
