Freshman Milos Vrzic and senior Aleksandar Petrovic scored four goals each to lead the Long Beach State men’s water polo team past Redlands, 16-7, at the UC Irvine Invitational on Sunday morning at Anteater Pool.
Petrovic finished the tournament with eight goals in two games to lead the 49ers to a pair of wins.
LBSU started quick against Redlands, taking a 3-0 lead with 2:42 remaining in the first quarter, before Danny Boessenecker cut the lead to 3-2 with back-to-back goals. The 49ers answered scoring seven straight goals before halftime to take a 10-2 lead into the break.
The 49ers pushed the lead to 15-3 after three quarters before Redlands was able to score four goals in the fourth quarter.
Devin Mefford finished with three goals and Dan Matulis added two, while Barry Snyder, Brian Schiefer, and Will Mathison also scored for the 49ers.
Matthew Kubeck led LBSU with four saves.
LBSU (2-0) returns to action next weekend with four games at the Redlands tournament in LaVerne, Calif. The 49ers open with Vanguard at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
