Anna Jeczmionka won the final match singles match Friday to seal the win for the Long Beach State women’s tennis team.
The 49ers (8-1) swept the doubles point and then won a pair of three-set matches to defeat host San Diego State, 4-3..
Deborah Armstrong and Anais Dallara, playing at No. 1 doubles, upset No. 63-ranked Alicia Aguilar and Julia Wais, 8-2. Meanwhile, Jaklin Alawi and Rachel Manasse defeated Emma Cioffi and Julia Trunk, 8-5, to seal the point. Sarah Cantlay and Julie Luzar then swept the point by winning a tight match at No. 3 doubles, beating Sierra Ellison and Olivia Colman, 8-7, in a close 10-8 tiebreaker.
In singles action, Manasse continued to have success at No 6, defeating Laura Antonana Iriarte 6-2, 6-1 to give the 49ers a second point, but the Aztecs rallied.
Ellison defeated Armstrong 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3, Cioffi beat Cantlay in her first match at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-2, and Trunk defeated Dallara 6-3 6-2 at No. 1 as the Aztecs took a 3-2 lead.
Long Beach State mounted a rally of its own, however. Alawi and Wais split the first two sets at No. 2, but Alawi won the third set, 6-4, to tie the match up once more at 3.
The longest match of the day belonged to Jeczmionka and Colman, who battled for three sets and had the final tally come down to that match.
Jeczmionka took the first set, 7-5, and Colman answered with a 7-6 tiebreaker win to force a third set. Jeczmionka then closed out the match with a 6-3 win in the third set to wrap up the team victory.
Long Beach State returns home to the Rhodes Tennis Center on Saturday when the team hosts UC Santa Barbara in Big West Conference action at noon.
