TAYLOR: Show a little love to LBSU teams

With Valentine’s Day upon us, people have been scrambling to show their love with reservations to fancy restaurants and gifts to give to their significant others. For those that don’t have a special someone to spend the day with, give your love to one of the Long Beach State athletics teams. They’re cheap dates, can be exciting, and won’t nag about you sitting on the couch and watching sports all day.

As far as relationships go on this consumer-controlled holiday, lovers often prove their adulation with how much money they spend on these dates. If you were to pair the different LBSU teams as Valentine’s Day dates, how much love would you show to them today?

Men’s basketball: 555 East Steakhouse

Those tough days of the nonconference season are behind them with the exception of Saturday’s game against Montana, and they’ve captivated us with their dominance of the Big West Conference. With a two-game lead giving them the inside track to the top seed in the conference tournament, find them the classiest restaurant you can find and tell them they can order whatever they want.

Men’s volleyball: La Creperie Cafe

The season is still pretty young and 6-4 isn’t an amazing record, but dominating No. 2 Stanford earns them a pretty nice meal. With plenty of conference games looming in the future, they have the opportunity to steal our hearts this spring.

Women’s basketball: MVP’s Grill & Patio

While this isn’t a fancy or romantic venue, a few weeks ago it was looking like a trip to McDonald’s would be showering them with too much love. Four wins in their past six games has them climbing up to respectability in the Big West standings and has us thinking that we should try to make this relationship work for a little bit longer.

With these teams taking up your heart and your time, take them out to a fine restaurant and let everyone know that you love them. And don’t forget to tip your waiter, unless it’s your ex who complained about you spending too much time watching sports.

Or a Cal State Fullerton student.
