The University of Colorado banned firearms in its dorms last August, regardless if the student had a concealed carry permit.
To address the concerns of its gun-toting students, the school created a segregated dorm building where concealed carry permit students could reside.
However, months later, no one has moved in.
What a surprise. Not really.
Why would anybody in the right mind want to move into a dorm that is for concealed weapons holders only?
Doesn’t it defeat the purpose of carrying a “concealed” weapon in the first place?
If you move into that specific dorm, you are blatantly expressing to your peers that you are carrying a gun.
Why do you need a gun in your dorm room in the first place?
Do you have a really nice mini-fridge or microwave you don’t want to be stolen?
With the many shootings that have happened on college campuses throughout the years, it just doesn’t seem safe to advocate guns being in dorm rooms – concealed carry permit or not.
Let’s be honest. College is a wild time in many of our lives. If a student comes back from a party and drunkenly decides to have a shooting match behind the dining hall, how would you explain this situation when things go awry?
The University of Colorado doesn’t allow concealed weapons at sporting events.
This should be the case with dorms.
It’s fine if students live off-campus and have concealed carry permits, but allowing students to keep their guns in their dorm rooms just doesn’t seem safe. Just keep the guns away from campus in all cases.
As far as a concealed weapons dorm goes, well that is the stupidest idea I have ever heard of.
