Most students probably cannot wait to go home and stuff their faces with delicious turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie.
It has certainly been a busy semester, and the Thanksgiving break is a much needed rest for students to recharge their batteries before the hell week that is finals approaches. With the fall semester coming to a close, we all have some time to relax and reflect before racing to the finish line. Many students have decided to start their Thanksgiving weekend early by heading home Tuesday and skipping their Wednesday classes. Some professors have gone as far as to cancel their classes altogether.
There is no hiding the fact that classes look significantly lighter on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
The later the class is in the day, the less people there seem to be.
Many students have to take off the day before because they have to fly home for the holiday.
Plane tickets get more expensive by the hour as Thanksgiving approaches, and students just cannot afford to pay those ridiculous rates.
By having Wednesday classes before Thanksgiving break, it forces some students to choose what is more important: getting back home in time to see family or making it to their Wednesday night lecture.
The professors who schedule tests or presentations on Wednesday make it an even more difficult decision for students.
We understand time is running out to fit everything in this semester, but making us attend class like this is cruel.
That is why we believe the Cal State Long Beach should start the long weekend early by giving us the Wednesdays before Thanksgiving off.
This decision would affect Wednesday-only classes alone and still allow courses that take place on
Mondays/Wednesdays and Tuesdays/Thursdays to get one last class session in before the break.
This decision would certainly be a welcomed one from most students, faculty and family members who want to spend time with loved ones.
At the end of the day, family is what really matters. Homework can wait a day.
