Our View: Game on! Obama and Romney battle tonight

Hey, everybody! The first round of presidential debates are tonight. Will you be watching?

If you will not, hopefully you have it tivoed. You can watch “Modern Family” and “South Park” tomorrow morning.

In what seems to be a tight presidential race, where Barack Obama  has a slight edge in recent polls, both sides will be looking to stand out in the competition.

With most of the nation already leaning one way or another, both Mitt Romney and Obama will look  to sway those still undecided.

Both sides have been trying to lower expectations by building up the other as an excellent debater, but naturally the winner of the battleground will be decided once all the dust settles.

During the debates, we are looking forward to hearing more from Romney on his policies.

Up to this point, Romney’s campaign has mainly focused on what went wrong with Obama’s presidency throughout the past four years. Now, it is time for Romney to tell the U.S. exactly what he plans on doing if he wins the presidency.

As for Obama, we are already familiar with his policies. He just needs to prove that the path we are on right now is still the right one to stay on and that change will only set the nation back.

Some people may question the importance of the presidential debates since many citizens have already decided. They view the debates as a platform for themselves to reaffirm their current decision.

However, in cases like John F. Kennedy versus Richard Nixon and Al Gore versus George Bush, the candidates’ performances in the debates can change the dynamics of an election.

For Romney, not only does he need to break down his policy, he also needs to express his personality on the national stage. With the more recent publicity of the Romney campaign’s gaffes, it’s time for him to show his true colors.

The nation already knows Obama very well, so he has an advantage. However, if he thinks promising to get his kids a pet cockatoo or trying to croon another verse from an Al Green song will help win over America again, he is mistaken.

Obama promised hope and change when he took the presidency.

Yet, the only thing that has been echoed by everyone is, are we better off than before?

Romney will certainly launch a full attack on Obama’s presidency tonight.

In order for Romeny to be successful, he will need to show America why the changes he will make will make a difference.
