Finals week is here and many students are feeling the stress to perform well on exams. It’s unfortunate for students considering everyone is already burnt out from school around this time.
College is stressful in itself, but finals week takes it to a whole new level. Therefore it is important for students to consider some tips to help get them through the madness of finals week.
Preparing for finals is important. Start by making a schedule or a list and write down everything you need to do. Include what projects or papers you need to finish, what days your final exams are along with what days you want to work on your projects.
Having a list to check off will make it easier for you to remember what you need to do and help you avoid starting that 15-page paper the night before it is due.
Also, being able to write down what you need to do and being able to cross them off is a huge relief and will probably bring down that rising blood pressure.
You should also try to avoid stressful people. If you have not figured it out yet, stress is contagious.
Avoid studying with any crazy, stressed out friend who is freaking out because she is way behind on studying. Stress can rub off on you and that is not a good thing.
Taking breaks during finals week is also important. Do not try to cram and study for six hours straight. Take a break between your study sessions to do absolutely nothing. Although it is harder than it sounds, relaxing and doing nothing will help you refocus and recharge.
This leads into my next tip: take a break and exercise. Do something that gets your body moving. Go to the Student Wellness and Recreation Center or take a walk or bike ride.
Exercising will help you relax and it can even make you feel more energized. Sometimes even getting away from where you have been studying for hours is nice and can help you clear your mind.
Finally, try to get some sleep. This may seem impossible during finals week and may not be at the top of your list, but any sleep helps.
You want to be energized and awake for your finals so you can do well. You also want to have enough energy to go out and celebrate once finals week is over.
