Society should stop forgiving Mel Gibson and Chris Brown

It had been a while since we had heard one of Mel Gibson’s now classic rants. It seemed like everyone had forgotten how a few years ago you could barely go a day before another recording of him yelling and screaming was released.

As entertaining as these were, it was clear that there was something wrong with Gibson mentally, and he clearly has some racist tendencies.

His latest rant was released by screenwriter Joe Eszterhas, and involves Gibson screaming all kinds of nonsensical obscenities, calling people “c-nt cockscuker whores” and other lovely words. It sounds like the ramblings of some kind of raving lunatic, and at this point it has stopped being funny.

Gibson recently appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno to talk about the incident and it started to annoy me how nonchalant everybody was about the guy. He made jokes like “maybe you haven’t heard this about me, but I have a bit of a temper” and the crowd laughed.

I personally don’t find it funny. Why do we as a society continue to allow these people to do these things instead of letting it destroy their career like it should?

Sure, Mel Gibson came across as charming in the interview, but that doesn’t mean that we should forget that he is a racist, sexist anti-Semite who is most likely an abusive alcoholic.

For some reason, certain people in the public eye continue to get a pass for doing horrible things. I can’t turn on the radio without hearing a song by Chris Brown because everybody has forgiven him.

This is a guy who literally beat a woman nearly to death, publicly, and people seem to have forgotten about it almost immediately.

In fact, Chris Brown is starring in a romantic comedy at the moment called “Think Like a Man.” If Chris Brown “thinks like a man,” it makes me ashamed to be one.

Look at what happened to Michael Vick. His career was almost completely destroyed in 2008 when the news of his dog-fighting ring broke.

Yeah, he’s back now but people practically wanted him publicly executed when they found out what he did to those dogs. Chris Brown attacked a human and people barely batted an eyelash about it.

I’m sick of people like Mel Gibson being forgiven over and over again just because they are charming in a TV interview.

He shouldn’t be on TV in the first place, but it’s our fault for watching. It disgusts me how we as a society forget and forgive things so quickly.

When it comes to Chris Brown, I will never respect him or his god-awful music, and I sure as hell won’t go see him in any movies. Unfortunately I’m one of the few who think this way.

What is wrong with this newspaper is less focus on school issues and more on Hollywood? the 49er should hook up with celebrity gossip channels if this is the way you all are going to run a school newspaper!
