In times of financial crisis, it is to be expected that the morally corrupt among us would take liberties to essentially cheat the system. It’s only natural, right?
When people feel that the world is crashing down around them, businesses are laying hundreds of people off and entire cities like Vallejo, Calif. are declaring bankruptcy, people often turn to extremes.
But never have I seen such incredible ignorance and selfishness than demonstrated by one Nadya Suleman.
Suleman, in the news practically daily for being the 33-year-old woman who produced a litter of children through in-vitro fertilization, is now the lucky mother of 14 wonderful crumb-crunchers.
When asked by Ann Curry during an NBC News interview how, exactly, an only child ends up with 14 children, Suleman responded, “That was always a dream of mine, to have a large family, a huge family.”
The type of entitlement Suleman demonstrates by making statements like this is already appalling, but to place responsibility for her children essentially in the hands of the taxpayer is unforgivable. Is this really the right time to be bringing eight more children into the world?
Let us take a look at the current state-of-affairs. On May 28, 2008, the North Bay city of Vallejo filed for bankruptcy. According to the San Francisco Gate, the decision to file for bankruptcy came “after months of cost-cutting and labor negotiations failed to save the city from financial ruin,” and left the city with a $16 million deficit.
This isn’t the first time a city has filed for bankruptcy — Orange County declared Chapter 9 in 1994 — but this is definitely a sign of our troubled times.
And the financial woes of the United States don’t end there. In January, computer giant Microsoft announced up to 5,000 employee layoffs and Ford’s credit subsidiary cut 20 percent of jobs; this month Wal-Mart laid off 400 employees and Nike axed 1,400 people. In fact, according to Forbes.com, the total number of layoffs since November 2008 at the country’s top 500 companies numbers more than 400,000.
This is what I’m talking about by entitlement. Suleman, it became apparent on the Curry interview, does not have any problem with what she’s done, even though she, too, is in dire financial straits. Suleman receives $490 each month in food stamps for her kids as well as disability insurance for three of them, all courtesy of the American taxpayer. She’s also on the hook for $50,000 in student loans.
Where is the outrage in Washington over this? Should John Q. Taxpayer really have his taxes go to this selfish woman? According to Suleman, the children were a gift from God and wonders who wouldn’t want to pay to help these little angels. It makes me sick.
As a non-believer, Suleman doesn’t fool me with this tired holier-than-thou drivel. She is simply a sick woman taking advantage of the system — plain and simple — and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to have their head examined.
Suleman isn’t the only sicko in this story. According to Fox News, Suleman’s insemination doctor, Michael Kamrava recently inseminated another woman, this time one in her 40s, with seven embryos. This woman also lives in Los Angeles, has no insurance and is currently five months pregnant! How many more times does this have to happen before laws are created preventing it?
There are already too many people on the planet as it is. Why have more unnecessary kids that you can’t afford? With the economy going down the drain and human test tube baby machines like Suleman walking around, the American taxpayer should be really angry right about now.
Perhaps China has it right with its one-child policy, where families in certain areas, by law, are only allowed one child. Washington, are you listening?

i think it is a sad situation but these babies have done nothing wrong so we need to help them. There should be laws on this kind of stuff but who are we to judge who can have kids and is a good mother or father?
sup guise
You condemn her for taking welfare, you chastise her for being a struggling mum and you bust her for being a psycho, but you don’t have a problem with the fact that she didn’t spread her legs for a man. She is a patriot and an inspiration for all of us wannabe sluts. Hmmmm.
I feel sorry for this woman for all the criticism that she’s getting. We need all the taxpayer money we can get to help take care of her children. Nobody should have to be burdend with such hardships. Please have some compassion for Nadya and all her trials and do not blame her for what has happened. May the welfare system take care of you Ms. Suleman.
I am a proud tax payer, but I believe in helping others on my own terms. I don’t mean to sound callused or mean, but the problem with the welfare system to me is that there are people like this woman and some that are probably even more short sighted than she is receiving checks right now. Of course, there are also the single parents who can never seem to receive a child support check or those who have fallen on exceptionally bad times. And, I through donations, charitable organizations and private shelters will support those. But, when hard working decent people have to have money taken out of their paychecks to support irresponsible people like this lady, we must truly reevaluate the reasons why we have such a system put into place and question the necessity of supporting people like Ms. Suleman.
I will end by just saying this, when I donate my resources, my time and my money to private organizations like GoodWill or my church, I know where my money is going and I feel good about what I am doing. But, when I let the government take money from my wallet through taxes, and then I hear about this lady, I feel ashamed about the state of our country.
