Despite hours of searching the campus by local police and SWAT officers, two suspects associated with the Cal State Fullerton campus lockdown are still at large, according to CBS 2 Los Angeles.
Around midnight, CSUF announced via Twitter that all buildings were clear and that all students were able to leave. Classes will still be held today as scheduled, according to the CSUF website.
Students started to leave the Pollak Library basement against police orders at 9:10 p.m., but police discouraged students in any building on campus from exiting, the Daily Titan reported.
CSUF issued a lockdown after a high-speed pursuit of five alleged robbers led police to the campus, according to NBC Los Angeles.
The five men allegedly committed an armed robbery in a Moreno Valley jewelry store around 3 p.m., according to NBC Los Angeles. A high-speed pursuit ensued as CHP officers chased the men in a gray Lexus through Orange County. The men were stopped by police near the campus when the Lexus ran into a Hyundai. The men then fled on foot near the CSUF campus.
A second chase started when one of the men carjacked another vehicle. The man later abandoned the car in Watts, where police arrested him.
One of the men was arrested near the CSUF campus after the first chase ended. According to NBC Los Angeles, another man was arrested on the campus.
School officials ordered university students and employees Wednesday to remain inside or evacuate the campus.
Nine SWAT officers entered the campus in search of the remaining suspects, according to the Daily Titan.
The Daily Titan reported that gunshots were heard near Langsdorf Hall on campus, but it is not clear if the shots were from the suspects or police.
Cody Paningsoro, a business major at CSUF, said he was walking to his class in Mihaylo Hall when he heard helicopters and noticed police were all around the building.
“When I turned to go in the building a policeman was putting a man under arrest and telling people to clear the way so he could exit the building,” Paningsoro said via email.
Paningsoro is one of many students who are still under lockdown.
Paningsoro said he did not hear any gunshots.
