Blotter: Singing man chased and arrested

Two women were allegedly assaulted at in the University Student Union by a singing man, Brown said.

Two women were allegedly assaulted at 7:48 p.m. on Oct. 18 in the University Student Union, Brown said. The man who allegedly assaulted the women was described as a black male with light skin, 5’10”, medium athletic build, wearing a gray hooded sweater, khaki cargo shorts and carrying a backpack, Brown said. The man was reported to have been singing loudly and attempting to grab coupon books from a student while she was playing the piano, Brown said. A maintenance worker reported seeing the same man grab another female, but when University Police arrived they were unable to locate him, Brown said.

On Oct. 23, officers saw a man who fit the description of the alleged assaulter in the USU on Oct. 18, Brown said. Police attempted to detain the man, and a brief foot pursuit ensued, Brown said. The man was caught, detained and arrested by police in connection with the two incidents, Brown said.

Computers taken from UTC building

Three computers were stolen from the University Telecommunications Center, Brown said. The computers were stolen between 4 p.m. on Oct. 23 and 9 a.m. on Oct. 24, Brown said. The incident is being classified as a commercial burglary, Brown said. No suspect information is available, and the incident is under investigation, Brown said.

Tires slashed in Parking Lot 19

Two women reported their cars vandalized in Parking Lot 19 at 3:12 p.m. on Oct. 21, Brown said. The women noticed their tires had been slashed, and the incidents are under investigation, Brown said.

iPhones stolen but not reported

Two students reported their iPhone 4’s stolen on Oct. 18, one at 2:42 p.m. and one at 4:55 p.m., University Police Captain Scott Brown said. One of the students was asleep in the University Library when the phone was taken, Brown said. Neither student wanted a police report taken, Brown said.

“Usually students report the loss of their iPhones for insurance purposes but don’t desire formal police reports be taken,” Brown said.
