Cathleen Decker, a Cal State Long Beach alumna and 2012 political campaign editor for the Los Angeles Times, will discuss how the media covers elections in the 21st century on Nov. 3 at the Anatol Conference Center from 4 to 6 p.m.
Decker attained her position as political campaign editor in February and has been analyzing politics since the Reagan administration.
“Cathleen Decker, who co-directed our outstanding coverage of last year’s California gubernatorial and Senate campaigns, has taken on a new assignment: editor of our 2012 national campaign coverage,” LA Times editor Russ Stanton wrote in a newsroom announcement. “Her duties will consist of covering breaking news and valid analysis through print.”
Decker started a column for the LA Times two years ago called “The Week.”
This column, which is featured in the Times’ Sunday California report, explores Decker’s perspective by reviewing the top stories from the previous week.
Attendees can expect to learn much about Decker’s life after CSULB, and her views on the world and current politics.
Tickets, which are $5 for students, are available for purchase in the journalism & mass communication office.
Alumni can RSVP by e-mail to clapalio@csulb.edu or by calling 562-985-4981.
The department of journalism & mass communication is hosting the event.
