CSULB student receives posthumous diploma

Kentaro Wakasugi

Kentaro Wakasugi, a Cal State Long Beach student who died of unknown causes earlier this year, received a posthumous diploma in a private ceremony April 15.

Wakasugi died at work on Jan. 28 — two and a half weeks before his 23rd birthday. Dean Michael Solt of the College of Business Administration presented the diploma to his family at the Dean’s Suite in CBA, Room 204.

Speakers included Solt and Assistant Dean of Students Jeane Caveness.

Wakasugi was a Molina Healthcare systems administrator and a member of Delta Sigma Pi, for which he held the positions of chancellor, senior vice president and historian.

Wakasugi was a senior information systems major and close to graduating prior to his sudden death.

“The family really appreciated the closure,” Solt said. “The knowledge that he worked so hard toward something is something they will have forever.”
