
Two men had more than $3,000 of merchandise stolen
Two men had a Nike gym bag stolen with laptops, a camera and clothing inside, University Police Capt. Fernando Solorzano said.
The men were sitting outside on the east side of the Nugget on March 15 at 12:20 p.m. when the items were stolen, Solorzano said. The men said they left the Nike gym bag containing two MacBook laptops, a Canon camera and clothes on a chair in the outdoor dining area for one minute. When they returned, the gym bag and everything inside were gone. The men looked around for the bag and asked students near by, but did not find their belongings. The loss of value of all the items stolen is $3,570.
Laptop and iPod stolen
A student’s laptop and iPod were stolen, Solorzano said.
The student said the laptop and iPod were stolen on March 13 between 9:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts 4 Building, room 222, Solorzano said. The student was studying with a friend and decided to leave to get something to eat. Before leaving, the student put the laptop and iPod in a backpack, and placed the backpack in a bin drawer in room 222. When they returned, the backpack containing the laptop and iPod were gone. The loss of value is estimated at $300.
Professor has books stolen out of her office
A Cal State Long Beach professor said she has had approximately 15 books stolen out of her office in the last two weeks, Solorzano said.
The professor, whose office is in the Education 2 Building, reported that books have been disappearing from her office between Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. and March 10, Solorzano said. Although she says 15 books have been stolen, she could only identify two of the books, which had a total value of $100. The professor also told police she always locks her office before leaving.
Union Weekly writer Noah Kelly receives threatening emails
Noah Kelly, campus editor of the Union Weekly newspaper, said he received threatening emails on March 17, Solorzano said. The email was in response to Kelly’s article reviewing the 41st annual Pow-Wow American Indian gathering that received criticism from many people. The email stated Kelly’s article was “unprofessional” and included harsh comments directed at Kelly personally.
Assault between custodian workers
A female custodian worker said another female custodian worker “pushed up against her” in the Custodial Office on March 3 at 12:30 p.m., Solorzano said.
The victim left the area immediately after the situation and did not make any contact with the other woman, Solorzano said. She said she only wanted to report the incident for documentation purposes and does not want to pursue a case.
Graffiti on a parking meter
Graffiti was found on a parking meter at the south turn, Solorzano said.
University Police do not know when the graffiti took place, however, an officer reported the graffiti on March 15, at 3:34 p.m., Solorzano said. The graffiti on the parking meter included the letters “SMD.”
