Homecoming

Students, parents and alumni will fill the campus Saturday for Cal State Long Beach’s annual Homecoming celebration. The event has recently been held during the spring semester, but will return to its roots and take place in the fall semester.

There will be a variety of events to welcome alumni and their families back “home” and get spirits high before the men’s basketball team faces the Weber State Wildcats. The festivities begin at noon, and the game tipoff is at 4:05 p.m.

An alumni and friends barbecue buffet starts at 1 p.m., and will give alumni time to eat and schmooze with old friends.

A few campus tours will be offered. The first is a 45-minute walking tour of the campus. The second is a “Hot Spots at The Beach” tour, which will show off popular campus destinations like the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Gardens, the University Art Museum and the University Library. Both tours are free and you can RSVP via www.csulb.edu/homecoming.

Students will be facing off in a tailgate competition, with groups of students decorating their tailgate parking spots to see who has the most school spirit. They will be judged on the “49er Days: Fall is Back” theme, Beach pride, complexity and originality.

Afterward, students can enjoy their decorated spaces with their own tailgate party. You can grill your own food if you have a gas-powered grill, but no off-campus alcohol is allowed.

The CSULB Dance Team will be leading a dance and cheer clinic for children 8 years old and up in the morning. The kids will perform the routine they learn at the homecoming basketball game later in the day.

The Homecoming Court will also be on hand. Nominated this year are students Amanda Arnold, Danny Abarca, Allison Baldwin, Peter Kreta, Hayley Crombie, Allan Lagomarsino, Kimmie Helm, Uchenna Obiora, Katie Hohmann and Scott Stark-Staples.
